SOAK – Before We Forget How To Dream Album Review

SOAK – Before We Forget How To Dream

Rough Trade Records

Before We Forget How To Dream is the debut album from 18-year-old Irish singer-songwriter Bridie Monds-Watson. It’s not often we see such raw talent from someone so young, but SOAK has talent to spare on this incredibly well done record. Every song drips with melancholy and passion.

SOAK gives a gorgeous, even voice to teenagers from a generation where everything seems to loudly talk over them, a generation where everyone seems to be shouting to be heard. She does this with her unique style that blends soul and folk into a new, exciting and quietly hypnotic sound. Her voice on each track is the very definition of beautiful. This wispy and delicate singing style carries us on a voyage through the turmoil of SOAK’s life, which articulates the accumulated tension of being a teenager.

There’s no filler anywhere on …Dream. Nothing is more exciting that ambition and talent and there’s not a doubt in the world that SOAK has them both. Just think…. This is her first full-length album!
